Our memories are made of radio, records, discs, cassettes, photos, TV, films, video, movies. They are simply our past, present and future.
Sometimes they are called media, audio-visual media, multimedia
or analog or digital technologies. And for a while now, they have turned digital.
But is going digital the solution to everything?
Memories are made of this
They have marked important moments of joy, of sadness, they have accompanied us along the journey that is life.
They have been the soundtracks of our existence, between a tear and a smile.
They were the images that we passed to friends and loved ones.
They were simple objects, always ready, always with us.
But now it is getting more difficult. They have become digital, they are in cyberspace.
They have names like internet, web, download, MP3, blog, iPod, Wifi, podcast
You access them, sitting in front of a screen windows and clicking on a mouse.
They are on-line, computer-based and database generated.
- Is is better, is it worse?
- Is it different?
- Is it indifferent?
Nostalgia is not what it used to be
"Nostalgia is not what it used to be", as the French proverb used to say, or: " La nostalgie n'est plus ce qu'elle était", which sounds just as good.
So if you find my musing amusing, we'll go (re)visit these things that we used to like and see what happened whilst we had our backs turned.
Rewind the tape.
